Larry Pratt
Lawrence D. Pratt (born November 13, 1942) is an American gun rights advocate and former executive director of Gun Owners of America (GOA), a position he held for over 30 years. He is known for his staunch defense of the Second Amendment and his outspoken views on various political issues. Pratt gained public attention not only for his advocacy work but also for his involvement in several controversies and conspiracy theories.
Controversies
Pratt has been a contentious figure due to his involvement with numerous controversial organizations and events. In the 1990s, he was criticized for his alleged connections to militia groups and his participation in meetings where controversial and racially charged viewpoints were expressed. These controversies led to his temporary resignation from the campaign of Pat Buchanan during Buchanan's 1996 presidential bid.
Pratt has also been a vocal opponent of various gun control measures, often employing strong rhetoric that has attracted both support and criticism. His uncompromising stance on firearms legislation and his frequent appearance on media platforms to discuss these views have kept him in the public eye.
Conspiracy Theories
Pratt has been associated with various conspiracy theories throughout his career. He has appeared on programs hosted by Alex Jones, a known conspiracy theorist, where they discussed topics such as government overreach and alleged plans to seize citizens' firearms. His participation in such discussions has led to accusations of promoting unfounded fears about government intentions.
Connections with Alex Jones
Larry Pratt has frequently collaborated with Alex Jones, appearing on The Alex Jones Show multiple times to discuss gun rights and political issues. Their conversations often delved into conspiracy theories about government actions and the erosion of individual freedoms. This association has further fueled controversies surrounding Pratt's public image and the messages he promotes.
Legacy
Despite the controversies, Pratt remains a prominent figure in the gun rights movement. His advocacy work and persistent efforts to influence gun legislation have made him a notable, albeit polarizing, character in American political discourse.
